Tesla Climate Control shortcuts issues

We're struggling with the climate control shortcuts on our Tesla! When I try to set a button as a shortcut by holding it, it goes to this weird list under the unused squares, not the actual empty squares up top like in the manuals. Anyone know how to get my shortcuts in those top squares and is that even possible?

The top row of icons on your screen can't be customized with shortcuts. However, you can create shortcuts for your favorite features using the shortcut screen. Just swipe left on your home screen until you see the icon with 3 boxes.
